OPRT site history
The OPRT web site was first pulled together during March and April, 2002. Over the years
we have been revising, correcting and adding addition information and pictures. If you have
stories, photographs, or additional information you think we should know about we'd be
happy to take a look at it.
The site was originally coded using Symantec Visual Page software. The page size was
optimized for XGA (1024x768 pixel) displays and dialup Internet connections. The width of
text columns was restricted to less than 800 pixels to allow users with VGA monitors to read
text columns without scrolling. Standard photograph size was 320 by 240 pixels. The site
was originally hosted by a local Internet provider, Towne Internet (twne.com) in New
Lenox, Illinois.
On December 31, 2011 the content was recoded using Xara Web Designer. The updated site
is designed with a pagewidth of 955 pixels (XGA). Most photographs and graphics are less
than 800 pixels wide but many of them can be enlarged to 1920 by 1200 pixels (WUXGA)
which is similar to HDTV in resolution. The 2012 version of the OPRT.ORG website runs
best for those users with a broad-band connection to the Internet because tranferring large
photo files from the server to your computer (by clicking on thumbnail photographs) requires
more bandwidth than most dial-up services provide.
